A Remarkable Day in the Pastoral Ministry of the Sick and Consolation
The pastoral ministry of the Sick and Consolation is one of the most delicate apostolates in the Vicariate of Cyprus, as we are still building bridges with the government sector for the recognition and promotion of the Catholic ministry in Cyprus. Therefore, the presence of Jesus through the apostolate of the sick and consolation is very important to show the true face of Jesus, irrespective of caste or creed.
It was especially significant for the Vicariate as we were allowed to visit the sick in the General Hospital, Latsia, Nicosia, only after a very long period of time. With the forthcoming Christmas, the apostolate was able to extend warmth and love to the inpatients of the General Hospital of Archbishop Makarios III to share the joy of Christmas by singing carols and distributing gifts among the patients.
The operation of the day was coordinated by the Apostolate, and there was a warm welcome from the hospital staff. The valuable presence of His Excellency Bruno Varriano, the Bishop Vicar of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to Cyprus, was greatly appreciated, and his presence radiated the true spirit of Christmas during the day.
The day was also greatly assisted and supported by the volunteers who always lend a helping hand from the Holy Cross Parish, for which we are grateful to the Parish Priest and the Superior of the Franciscan Community of Friars.
We further wish to continue our presence and extend our mission of presenting the face of Christ to the sick in the future! With that great determination, we remain grateful to the Lord.
