On March 21-23, St. Barnabas Pastoral Education and Training Center began another course, JUBILATE DEO.
This formation program, Jubilate Deo, is designed to train and develop the members of the Catholic choirs in Cyprus over the course of a year. It includes:
1. An initial in-person session (March 20–23, 2025) in Cyprus for course presentation, vocal technique training, and liturgical preparation.
2. Monthly online lessons (April 2025 – March 2026, 2-2h30 each) covering sacred music history, theology, and technical aspects.
3. A second in-person session in late 2025 focused on practical choir training and liturgical interpretation.
4. Final in-person session during Holy Week 2026, preparing and performing the liturgical music for the Paschal Triduum as the culmination of the course.
The head of the JUBILATE DEO course is conductor VINICIUS KATTAH. He is a Brazilian conductor, Artistic Director of the National Opera of Košice, Slovakia, from 2018 to 2020. Awarded in international competitions, he has lived in Vienna for 14 years with his wife, Sarah, and their three children. In addition to opera, he is prominent in sacred music, having been appointed as a councilor by the Vatican for the John Paul II Foundation for Youth. He is also the founder of the Catholic biblical study group “Theophilus”. Vinicius conducts various orchestras in Austria and worldwide. He began his career studying music in Brazil, Germany, and the USA.
We thank Msgr. Bruno Varriano for his pastoral commitment and commitment to the ongoing formation of the faithful of the Latin Church in Cyprus.
